Give me a little history on Mighty Crown?

Mighty Crown has been around for about 16 years. The group is made up of Sammy T and Simon who are both MC's, Ninja -MC and selector, Supa G- Selector and MC and Cojie who is a selector. Sammy T and Simon are brothers who built the sound after leaving school. We have been together for a while and have been doing our music for a number of years, however we really got our recognition in 1999 from a world clash in Brooklyn New York defeating Base Odyssey, Tony Matterhorn and Killermanjaro with Ricky Trooper.

How did Sammy T and Simon get in Reggae music?

Well, Sammy T and Simon started listening to foundation music for a long time and Bob Marley was one of the artist that they looked up to. They moved to New York, Brooklyn to be exact and really got into the roots of dancehall. Biltmore Ballroom and Starlight was a regular. Then we moved to Jamaica where  we studied and experienced dancehall first hand.

What was one of Mighty Crowns most memorable clash?

Well one of the most memorable clash was "Game Over World Clash," that was one of the last world clash held in New York. It was a great one because we came from behind and defeated Bass Odyssey in chune for Chune. Another was our first world clash in Jamaica in 2006 or 2007 for Death or Dishonor. That one was a great one for us because it's where a non Jamaican sound won for the first time.

I realized the Mighty Crown has sneakers and apparels, can you tell us a little more about that side of Mighty Crown?

Mighty Crown is managed by Irish and Chin since 1999 and since then we have developed 3 clothing lines. 9Rulaz, Irie Life and Irie Berry which is the female line. Our apparel is currently only available in Japan, but we are working on marketing our products in the US. Mighty Crown also manages a couple Japanese artists. One of our artist and one of Japans biggest music group is Fire Ball.

Ok, so Mighty Crown just had a clash in Jamaica this year, Death and Dishonor. I thought that you were the crowds favorite because I know that you all won the title two years in a row, so what happened? Also, can you tell us a little about the  US Vs. England clash that took place in England just a week later?

Well this clash was a dedication to Squingy and I would say that the crowd went with a country sound just as a representation and respect to Squingy. I mean we were disappointed and that would be the case for anyone, but it was a great competition. US vs. England was a group ting. It was Centennial , Black Cat and Mighty Crown representing the US and Bass Odyssey, David Rodigan and One Love representing England. The US won, but overall everyone did a great job.
